Early Years Foundation Stage Course

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the statutory framework for early years education in England. The term was defined in the British government's Childcare Act 2006. All schools and early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

The four guiding principles of the EYFS are:
  1. A unique child.
  2. Positive relationships.
  3. Enabling environments with teaching and support from adults.
  4. Learning and development.
What key stage is foundation stage?

Included are the different age groups that children are usually in these key stages for, depending on their birthday within the academic year: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – ages 3-5 (Nursery and Reception) Key Stage 1 – ages 5-7 (Years 1-2) Key Stage 2 – ages 7-11 (Years 3-6)

What is the EYFS method of teaching?

The EYFS recognises that children need to be able to use concrete experiences to provide the building blocks for their learning. Based on this, the learning ethos behind the EYFpppⁿ encourages learning through a mix of play-based and adult-led learning.
